Administering Medication Covertly – Care Control Learning Hub

Administering Medication Covertly

Sometimes medication must be given covertly. Here are our recommendations on how to record this on Care Control.

1

We would first advise that medication given covertly is created as a separate medication and labelled accordingly. For example, Paracetamol (Given Covertly), as opposed to using the existing medication on the system. This helps with recording integrity so that the data shows what is and what isn’t given covertly.

2

Similarly, in the medication purpose, we would recommend adding the method in which this is done.

For example, given in yoghurt.

3

Finally, we would recommend that information is added to the service users Care Plan / Care Review and any doctors’ notes about how and why the medication is given covertly.
