How to expire Mental Capacity Assessments and Consents on Cloud
Expiring a mental capacity assessment and consents ensures that care staff always work with up-to-date information about the individual’s ability to make decisions and the permissions in place for their care. A person’s capacity can change over time due to illness, medication, or recovery, so setting an expiry date prompts a timely review rather than relying on outdated records. This supports safer, person-centred care and helps staff make decisions that reflect the individual’s current situation.
It also provides clear accountability and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, such as the Mental Capacity Act. By reviewing and renewing consents regularly, care staff can demonstrate that they are respecting the rights of individuals and ensuring decisions remain in their best interests. This reduces risk, supports transparency, and gives staff confidence that they are acting appropriately in line with both best practice and inspection standards.
